Country Retreat Garden Wood Hall Spa

This garden in Wood Hall Spa was designed as a country retreat, as part of a charming garden and driveway makeover. It sits in open countryside, with long views all around.

The project was a little bit different. Our clients had a lot of space at the front of the house, but it didn’t feel private enough to use day to day. They wanted places to sit, relax and host friends, without feeling exposed.

The brief was simple. Make the most of the views, but create a sense of privacy so the front garden would actually be used.

The driveway was treated as part of the overall garden design, rather than a separate space. We extended it slightly and introduced a circular roundabout to make access easier and put the space to better use. At the centre sits a magnolia tree, set within white pebbles and planting. It creates a clear focal point as you arrive and helps define the front of the garden.

A circular seating area sits within curved planting beds and tall eucalyptus trees. It feels private, without hiding the views, and looks out across the garden beyond.

A linear water body runs through the space, crossed by a rustic wooden arched bridge. It brings movement and sound, and gently leads you through the garden.

Layered lighting and Mediterranean-style planting pull everything together, giving the garden a warm, welcoming feel as you arrive.
