Family Garden Humberston

This Humberston garden started out much like many new build spaces. Turf from fence to fence, with little to draw you outside or give the garden a clear sense of purpose. Our clients wanted a family garden that felt personal and relaxed, with an Ibiza inspired, Mediterranean feel that still worked well for life with young children.

A large, manicured lawn was central to the brief. It now sits at the heart of the garden, helping the space feel open and calm. Alongside it, a long planting bed runs the full length of the garden, filled with hydrangeas that will add colour and softness as they establish. Clear zones and warm materials give the garden shape, without it feeling closed in or overdesigned.

Outdoor living was a key focus. We created a kitchen and dining area beneath custom timber pergolas with bamboo roofs, along with a snug that can be used all year round. An arched window looks out across the fields beyond, borrowing the view from the surrounding landscape. At the bottom of the garden, a walled secret garden offers a quieter retreat, with a bespoke corten steel living wall and the gentle sound of water.

A dedicated play area with swings, a trampoline and space for ball games gives the children a place of their own. Keeping this separate helps protect the main lawn, while still allowing the garden to work well for the whole family.

The result is a Mediterranean inspired garden transformation that feels open, calm and easy to enjoy, every day.
