Modern Garden Barnsley

This Barnsley garden was designed to bring people together. Our clients wanted a modern alfresco garden they could enjoy with friends, kids and grandkids. They travel often, so it also needed to be low maintenance. And most importantly, it had to feel like a natural extension of the house.

The garden needed some structure. So we used hard landscaping to create clear zones that shape the layout, each with a purpose. From there, we designed two main social spaces. One for cooking and dining, the other for relaxing.

Sheltered by two louvred pergolas and linked by a large open fireplace, the outdoor kitchen and lounge seating areas feel like one outdoor room.

To soften the space, we chose to cover the existing brickwork with timber slat panelling. It adds warmth and helps frame the garden, giving it a more finished, considered feel. Living walls were introduced alongside this to bring greenery closer to the seating areas and break up the hard surfaces.

Just off the back door, a raised decking area creates a natural spot for a morning coffee, with a built-in corten steel water feature adding gentle movement and sound.

The result is a modern garden transformation designed for outdoor living. Practical, relaxed and easy to enjoy, whether it’s a quiet morning or a garden full of guests.alf
