Zen Garden Doncaster

This garden in Doncaster was designed and built for a couple who wanted a calm, practical space that worked for everyday life. The brief centred around creating something with a more zen feel, using simple materials, soft planting and a clear layout that works for outdoor living.

The garden is split into two distinct areas, each with its own character.

To the rear of the house, patio doors open onto a circular dining terrace. Positioned close to the kitchen, this space is set up for day to day use as well as entertaining.

In one corner, a gazebo creates a relaxed seating spot. It sits in a quieter part of the garden and looks back across the space. Crocosmia, dahlias and wisteria bring colour through the seasons and soften the edges around it.

On the opposite side, space has been left for sun loungers, positioned to catch the best of the sun.

Alongside the house, the garden becomes more pared back. Pebbles, a water feature and a Japanese maple create a quieter corner, with bamboo and light planting softening the edges. A timber summerhouse sits neatly within this space, which is set up as a place to step away and unwind.

Each area has a clear use, but the garden still feels like one space.
